peace love makeup & apothecary

It's summer, so today we're talking about skin. Make the leap with me, people (men, too! You've got skin and mothers, don't you?).

Today I am introducing a wonderful website featuring natural, organic, vegan beauty products called Peace Love Makeup. (And don't you just love the branding?) Peace Love Makeup offers the healthiest, hippest, most eco beautiful products without any parabens, petroleum, harsh chemicals that are also eco friendly and cruelty free. The proprietor of this little venture is an experienced makeup artist, and if you're lucky enough to live in Miami (she is also available for out of state bookings), Marcie is available for healthy makeup makeovers, photo shoots, weddings, etc.

And here is what makes this boutique really special: Peace Love Makeup is a proud partner of The Girl Effect. A portion of each sale will be lovingly donated to help change a girl's life and change the world.

And since we're on the topic of skin, I also want to remind you of some products mentioned earlier on this blog. Dermalogica, the world’s preeminent professional skin care brand, is the founding partner for FITE. FITE is a global empowerment platform that is designed to foster Financial Independence Through Entrepreneurship for women in the developing world. Buy Dermalogica products in specially-marked FITE packaging and unlock a loan for a woman entrepreneur! Each product contains a unique code that can be redeemed on the FITE website. Do some good while being your beautiful self!

FITE

Today's post is all about girl power...and I have a serious girl crush on today's organization.  Just officially launched on Jan. 6, FITE is a global empowerment platform powered by Kiva.org, the nonprofit leader in microfinance, that is designed to foster Financial Independence Through Entrepreneurship for women in the developing world. Their mission is to provide women entrepreneurs access to small loans that will help them start or grow a business; and to help educate the public at large about the benefits of empowering women entrepreneurs so that they “can hold up their half of the sky.” In just the first 2 years, they aim to help at least 25,000 women.

There are several ways you can join FITE and help fund an entrepreneur.  You can help fund a microloan for as little as $25.00!

You can also help by gettin' purty.  Dermalogica, the world’s preeminent professional skin care brand, is the founding partner for FITE, and has invested all the research and development to make FITE possible.  Buy a FITE-sleeve Dermalogica product and then redeem the code inside to activate a donation to fund a business of your choosing!

Also, be sure to check out the businesses and organizations who are already supporting FITE and the empowerment of women and give them a little love.

GIRLZ RULE!

P.S.  Huge exploding knuckle touch to my creative and talented husband for the awesome new design!  You like?

kiva

I've been a Kiva lender now for a couple of years and I love it. I started with a few modest investments (mostly as gifts for friends and family) which have ALL be 100% repaid. There has been some debate within the philanthropic and economic communities about the ethics of microlending in poor communities, but I have followed the reports about my investments carefully and have so far been quite satisfied.

The awesome thing is that once a loan is repaid, the money goes back into your Kiva account so that you may re-lend it to someone else! (You can also take the money back for yourself, but I think that's a little cheap, don't you?) You can even give money in your account as a gift to someone for them to start their own Kiva account. I think it's awesome and a fun way to make a difference in someone's life on the other side of the world.

Oh yeah, and Oprah chose this as one of her Favorite Things, too. So...there you go.
